Following along the framework of a balanced literacy, students should be exposed to word work activities at the (1) Modeled, (2) Shared, (3) Guided, and (4) Independent levels. My class’ [independent] WORD WORK activities are stored in pull out drawers. Students self-select an activity to work with and may switch out drawers if they desire. Students may choose to work with a partner if they wish.

I use Flipped Learning to teach students new word work activities. Students watch videos at home and come to school prepared to select new word work activities. These videos are also great to have for reteaching purposes! Below, you’ll find a 35-video playlist. You can view additional videos by clicking in the upper, left-hand corner.

Jessica once again we have outdone yourself! You are awesome! Thank you so much! Everything you do is such an asset to the teaching /learning community. Hugs!
Oops! I meant “you” instead of “we”! Do you offer a keyboarding or proofreading center? 🙂
Hello! We don’t have an official keyboarding time in first (starts in 2nd. However, with that said, my kiddos do experience using the keyboard when they utilize laptops for Daily 5 word work. I should probably post some of our favorite learning sites. They use it for math rotations too. As for a proofreading center…no. Haven’t thought about that!
Thank you Wendy! =)
