Santa Letters

Having your students write letters to Santa can be a daunting task.  I use this activity to teach letter writing skills, as well as the writing process.  Creating large anchor charts has been a life saver for me because I find that not all students start and finish at the same time.  I do have a SMARTboard version, but the wall chart version is by far my favorite method to use.  Take a peek at two versions of anchor charts (2009 and 2010):

Thank you Jessica for posting your Santa Claus letter writing anchor charts! Next week we’re doing a unit on the Polar Express, and are going to write letters to Santa. I’m introducing what letters are and why/how we send them this week so they’re a little more prepared for next week’s writing. This may be a few too many steps for my kindergarteners, but with some simplifying I think it’ll turn out great! Thanks for sharing!

These are great! When I was teaching first grade, we used to partner with a middle school class to write back as elves and answer those tough questions the little ones came up with. So much fun!
