As a new teacher, I can’t thank you enough for sharing so openly! Your students are blessed to have your organized teaching methods. I can only imagine how you enjoy watching them grow.
Thank You,
Tamye
Thank you, Tamye! =) Have a fantastic year!
I’m trying to do my research into RW and was recommended to your page. I like the look of this. I am trying WW for the first time. However, does this apply to only primary students or will this work across the board (ie my 4/5 combo?)
Yes! Most definitely the content could be adapted for upper elementary. Of course not every lesson would be necessary at that level, but a teacher could pick and choose based on their students’ skills and needs.
Jessica-
Thank you so much for openly sharing your amazing materials. I can’t thank you enough…what a treat to be able to use this in our classrooms and to enhance the learning of our students. SO thankful!
My pleasure, Kari! =) Best wishes to you!
Dear Jessica,
I tried using readers and writers workshop last year with my year 1’s but found although I used the structure I was still struggling to keep it meaningful and focused. We are about to start our new year and can’t thank you enough for sharing your work. I have always had the same philosophy of sharing what I create, but have rarely come across someone so openly sharing planning. Thank you so very much.
Sue
Thanks for the kind words, Sue! I appreciate them…a lot! We can’t go wrong with sharing, can we!?!? Best wishes to you and your little ones!
I just wanted to thank you personally for sharing of your time, resources, and knowledge. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Aww!! Thanks so very much for the kind, generous words! I appreciate them!! =) Have a blessed summer, Jennifer!
Thanks for being so generous and sharing your materials. So much work and thought must have gone into them. I will spread the word!
You’re very welcome, Alex! Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it a lot!
Thank you, thank you, thank you a million times
Thanks for the ray of sunshine today, Magdalena! =)
I notice that your units sometimes overlap in certain months. For example, you may have inferring from November until the end of the year, along with Determining importance? How do yo mix the two units together?
Rather than teach each strategy separately, I prefer to implement a more cyclical way of teaching. While making connections, asking questions, and visualizing are easier to introduce during the beginning of the year for first graders), we don’t stop talking about them or using them as the year progresses, but are mindful that readers use a variety of strategies as they read. Currently our favorite thing to do during Reader’s Workshop mini lesson is to share which strategies we’re using as I read the book aloud. I stop and think aloud to model my thinking during and after the read aloud. I personally like to think of the reading unit lessons as a menu of options for me to use throughout the year. Hope this makes sense!
Hi! I have used some of your lessons in the past and love them!! Fabulous!! Thank you! Thank you! I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, but I’m trying to download the reading units and am unable to. I cant find where the link is. I can get the supporting documents and the mentor texts, but not the actual units. I have them in hard copy but would really like to have them digital as well. Its probably right in front of me…been a long day of planning! 😉
It’s the gray folder about halfway down the page! =) When you open it you’ll see several folders. Click on Units of Study! =)
