Shared Reading provides my class with an opportunity to gather at the carpet and share in the reading experience. Enlarged text is a must! We use Big Books (purchased or teacher created) and Charts (poems/songs/rhymes/chants). Many of our science and social studies standards are covered during our Shared Reading time. Our monthly Shared Reading routine generally follows the same pattern. The first half of the month, we enjoy reading the selections, discussing them, and generally familiarizing ourselves with them. During the second half the month, we take a closer look at each selection, and we add it to our poetry notebooks. The poems and songs below have been used with K and 1st students.

Hi Jessica! Thank you for sharing your hard work! I’ve been using your resources for years! I’m wondering if you still have the printables that go with the poetry notebooks. I thought I had them all from the first website, but I can’t find them. Thanks for your help and for all you do!
They are here: https://jessicameacham.com/shared-reading/ =) Just click on the download arrow toward the bottom of the post! They’re stored in Google Drive folders for download!!
Great! Thank you!
Thank you so much for your generosity!
You are very welcome! It’s my pleasure to help others. Have a blessed new school year!
I don’t know how to thank you for all of your hard work and generosity!!! I am returning to teaching after many years and am excited! I will definitely be using your resources.
Thank you again!
Thanks, Mary! =) I appreciate the feedback and warm fuzzies!!
You are the best! I have used your poems for many years and love your website. You save me so much time!
SO glad to help!!
Hi Jessica, I am just so grateful and blessed by your generosity and knowledge! How many poems do you teach each month?
Good question! It depends on what we’re learning. So for September, we do all the apple, weather, and season poems. In October we move on to the leaves and pumpkin poems. For November it’s all about turkeys. They’re kinda thematic for us…! =)
Hi Jessica,
Thanks so much for being so generous with all of your great resources!!! When I taught grade one 5 years ago, I loved using your resources. I’ve had 4 other teaching assignments since my first time using your resources and I’m back to teaching grade one..yeah!!! I have a question for you regarding your shared reading/poetry resources. I thought I’d remembered being able to use your poems on the smartboard as well being able to download pdf files. Are the smartboard versions of the poems still available?
Thank so much,
